Review - Week 10

This will be my last post of this blog. It's been a fun semester, and I think it's fitting that the last assignment I do is to review and look back on some things in class. I backup up my blog, which is especially  important since it is finished.  I also tried to find the most fitting image and decided on the following.

Proverb Lab
When one door shuts another one opens. I've always like this saying and I think posting this is a fitting way to end the class.

Review - Week 9

Molokai, Hawaii
This week's image was taken from Sunday, March 27 daily announcement. The scenery and nature of this image really appealed to me.  I would like to get to visit Hawaii someday.

Review - Week 8

This week I chose an image from Monday, March 7th blog post.

Punctuation Matters
I chose this image because I have seen this letter before.  I talked about this in late middle school or early high school.  I remember sitting in English class reading this. It is kinda neat to see, since all of the words are exactly the same .

Week 7 Review

This week's image was taken from Thursday, March 3rd blog post.

Claws and Clauses
I thought this image was cute, and I always appreciate a good pun. Turns out you can make a lot of different puns with grammar jokes.

Week 6 Review

I ended up choosing an image from the most recent blog post of this week's announcements: Sunday, February 28.

Creativity in Writing
I look at this image and immediately think about graph theory and connecting dots in optimal days, drawing path between them and different algorithms for doing so.  This is what 4 years to a computer science major has done to my brain.  That just goes to say there are many different ways of looking at am image and everybody will interpret it a little bit different.

Week 5 Review

This week I chose to use an Image from Saturday, February 20th blog post.  I immediately like the image with the 'Bare Feet' and 'Bear Feet.'  I grew up with my dad telling lots of puns.  It really stuck with me, I take every opportunity I can to make bad puns, and will always appreciate other people's bad puns.

Week 4 Review

Cartoon by Dan Piraro
The above image was taken from Tuesday, February 9th daily announcement. I love puns, and I thought this one was clever.  It's an Egyptian version of a fun little spelling Rhyme.

Fun fact, there are more rules in the English dictionary that are an exception to the rule 'I before E except after C' than words that actually follow it.  I wrote a program for a class once that counted how many words follow this rule, and how many don't.

Week 3 Review

It's hard to believe we've already gone through three weeks of this semester.  I looked through this weeks announcements and I would like to share what was posted on February 5's announcement. The post included a link to the origin story behind the word echo.  I think it's fun to see what kind of ideas people had in ancient Greece: why the sun rises, what makes lightning appear in the sky etc.  The story of Echo was one I'd never heard before.

Week 2 Review

I have successfully finished week 2.  This has been the most fast paced class that I have had so far.  The busy part of the semester hasn't hit yet, so I will enjoy it while it last.

While looking of the current week's class announcement,  I found a quote that made me think.
Chinese Proverb
Unfortunately, I believe that a lot of people take this to mean that we should not plant trees.  If we don't see benefit 100, 50, even 20 years, then many people will not put in the time and effort. If everybody was willing to put efforts into projects that help people 100 years from now, then we will be benefiting from the people who put in the work 100 years ago, the people working to help us.  An interesting thing to end the week thinking about.

On a less serious note, isn't the Caps Lockness Monster adorable! Awwwww

Week 1 Review

Today is the last day of orientation week for Mythology and Folklore.  I feel like I have a pretty good understanding for what I will be doing in this class, and what is expected from me.

My favorite image from this week's class announcements is the one below.  It was posted on Friday, January 22. I did not chose this one for the quote, I chose it for the art.

Announcements:  Next week, Friday in Devon 420 from 4:30-5:30 is the first meeting of OU game developers association.  Well, first meeting for the semester.  Anybody interested in developing games is welcome, you don't have to be a programmer.  That includes game writing, for example if you want to work on writing a story or dialogue for a game.
